AI is starting to eliminate the “invisible work” that consumes entire hours inside companies — information searches, repetitive tasks, and administrative processes. In its place, a new category of professionals is emerging: people who know how to work efficiently with AI, automate processes, validate results, and turn the same team into a far more productive one, according to the Romanian company Life in Codes, which will debate the topic at Work Evolution Summit 2026, one of the most important events in Eastern Europe dedicated to the future of work in the AI era, organized in Bucharest.
The future of work with AI: what employees and companies are looking for
The new category of professionals working alongside AI will not necessarily need advanced programming skills, but rather a combination of business understanding, logic, and practical technology usage.
The most important skills will be:
- understanding business processes and identifying activities that can be automated;
- practical use of AI in day-to-day tasks;
- critical thinking and validation of AI-generated results;
- coordinating collaboration between people and AI agents;
- adaptability and fast learning, as technology constantly evolves;
- digital literacy and understanding AI logic, even without advanced technical knowledge.
In practice, companies will increasingly look for people who know how to use AI to become more efficient, not only IT specialists who build the technology itself.
People and employers are also starting to understand that AI does not replace humans, even though it changes the labor market, the way work is done, and the need for new employee skills. Hybrid teams are emerging, where people work daily alongside specialized AI agents.
More than that, entirely new AI management roles are starting to appear. At the leadership level, 61% of companies already have a Chief AI Officer within the C-suite, showing that AI strategy has moved beyond the IT department and onto the boardroom agenda.

AI will create more jobs
One of the most persistent myths is that AI will replace employees. In reality, AI cannot function without people to coordinate it and validate its results. Gartner estimates that AI’s impact on jobs will remain neutral until the end of 2026, while by 2028, the technology is expected to create more jobs than it eliminates.
McKinsey & Company highlights an essential distinction: AI automates tasks, not entire professions. Employees are also becoming increasingly open to this collaboration — 70% say they are willing to delegate tasks to AI to gain more time for creative and strategic activities, according to Deloitte.
How much productivity increases in companies through human-AI collaboration
Estimates from Life in Codes show that up to 40% of repetitive tasks — such as sorting customer service requests, connecting information between teams, or generating first versions of code and documentation — can be handled by AI agents.
According to data from Life in Codes projects and international studies, the proper integration of AI can generate productivity increases of between 20% and 40% in automated processes. In many companies, activities that previously consumed up to a quarter of working time, such as searching for and connecting information, can now be completed in just a few seconds.
This direction is also confirmed globally. Atlassian, a strategic partner of Life in Codes, reported a sevenfold increase in agentic automations over the past six months and is shaping the model of “AI-native” organizations, where people and AI agents work together and the employee’s role evolves from execution to coordination, validation, and decision-making.
But perhaps the most important gain is not speed, but the time recovered for strategic activities, creativity, and solving complex problems.
“But beyond the numbers, a new perspective is emerging that changes the entire conversation: when you give competent and valuable people their time back, they begin working on what they were actually hired to do. The time gained does not disappear — it shifts toward strategic decisions, solving complex cases, and innovation. Real productivity comes from meaning, not pressure,” explains Alexandru Constantinescu, CEO of Life in Codes.
McKinsey & Company estimates that AI could generate up to USD 4.4 trillion globally in additional productivity, while frequent users save more than nine working hours per week.
At the same time, companies have entered a new stage represented by agentic AI — systems capable of autonomously planning, executing, and adapting workflows. According to McKinsey, 23% of companies are already scaling such systems, while another 39% are actively experimenting with AI agents. Microsoft shows that 46% of business leaders already use AI agents to automate complete workflows.
In Romania, adoption remains below the global average, but this delay could become a competitive advantage. The experience of Life in Codes shows that organizations that choose one clear process, automate it quickly, and measure results from the start manage to significantly accelerate digital transformation.
The company also emphasizes that the idea of a fully autonomous AI remains a myth. AI systems constantly require human context, validation, and coordination, while organizations are already beginning to build hybrid roles at the intersection of business, operations, and technology.
